Continuing its webinar series, Maritime London hosted another successful event on October 1st. “Understanding the latest UK advisory on sanctions” discussed the UK’s Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) recently published financial sanctions guidance for entities and individuals operating within the maritime shipping sector (the Maritime Guidance).
The live and interactive webinar started with the presentation by Freya Page, OFSI’s Head of Guidance and Engagement and Mark Holleley, Department for Transport’s Sanctions Policy Lead, which outlined the Maritime Guidance, including what it covers and how it supports the industry.
Mark Holleley said: “The Transport Sanctions Team in the Department for Transport is keen to work alongside our partners across the maritime industry to provide any help or advice where we can.”
The OFSI and DfT presentation was followed by a round-table discussion moderated by Maritime London Chief Executive Jos Standerwick, during which legal and insurance experts and government representatives explored the latest trends in the maritime sanctions environment. The panelists included Simon Lockwood, Deputy Managing Director, Shipowners and Special Risks at Willis Towers Watson, who is also Chair, LIIBA Marine Committee, HFW Partner Daniel Martin specialising in sanctions and Chair of the International Group Sanctions Committee Mike Salthouse, who is also Global Director (Claims) at North Group.
