BMT Surveys (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group, the leading international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, has announced the opening of its new office in Melbourne, Australia.
Director, Jeroen de Haas comments: “We are the first marine surveying company of our size to open offices in Australia with the majority of our competition being one-man businesses. With Melbourne being the largest port for import trade and therefore, by definition the place where most cargo damage is likely to occur, it presents significant business opportunities for an organisation such as ours.
We will also look to focus on other ports on the continent and our office in Melbourne will be an attractive base for assignments in the whole of Oceania, Indonesia and the rest of the South East Asia, all of which are rising economies.”
The Melbourne office will be led by Trevor Dove who has over eight years’ experience as a naval architect. He is both a Chartered Engineer and an AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority) Accredited Surveyor for shipping inspections and has recently obtained a Diploma in Marine Surveying.
Trevor will be supported by James Nolan who joined BMT last year and previously worked as a surveyor with marine survey regulators and London Offshore Consultants for 14 years. James is also an accredited AMSA marine surveyor. De Haas continues: “Having native Australians to head up this office was intentional. They have a deep knowledge of the country’s culture and first-hand experience of the local markets and how they operate.”
Both Trevor and James will be assisted by experienced nautical surveyor, Nick Dowden, a former captain who currently works in BMT Surveys London office but will relocate to Australia for the next year.
