Maritime London member, the Greek Shipping Cooperation Committee cut the Vasilopita cake at a traditional Greek ceremony to welcome the new year, held earlier this month at the Baltic Exchange in London. The Vasilopita cake was cut by chairman Haralambos Fafalios and blessed by Archbishop Gregorios, at the event that was well attended by the London Greek shipping community.
During a speech Haralambos Fafalios highlighted London’s position as the global maritime centre, he commented “So far, we have not seen any specific element of Brexit that directly affects shipping’s presence in the UK. In fact, we urge the UK government post Brexit to consider ways to reaffirm London’s position as the global shipping centre.”
Mr Fafalios also spoke about the growth in legislation around the shipping sector. He said “We strongly urge all regional authorities such as national governments and the EU to work within the tried and tested framework of the IMO.”
