Hill Dickinson strengthens Hong Kong office with new Partner appointment

Posted on: 2 September 2016

International law firm Hill Dickinson will be welcoming new partner Caroline Thomas to its Hong Kong practice on 5 September 2016.

Caroline specialises in insurance, shipping and competition law with a focus on dispute resolution and regulation. She is also experienced in general corporate and regulatory matters including contract drafting, joint ventures, AML, sanctions and data protection.

Caroline, who is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales and Hong Kong, has worked in the region for the past eight years. She spent five years at Holman Fenwick Willan and prior to this, four years at Clyde and Co.

Commenting on Caroline’s arrival, Hill Dickinson partner Mike Mallin said: “We are delighted to welcome Caroline to Hill Dickinson. Caroline is well-known and highly regarded in the Hong Kong shipping community and has excellent relationships with a number of the P&I Clubs that we work with.”

Hong Kong office principal Damien Laracy added: “We are continuing to recruit the best talent in the region and Caroline is a great addition to the firm. She offers a complimentary skill set in terms of both her wider marine and non-marine insurance experience as well as her expertise in relation to competition law issues, which are now in focus more than ever with the Hong Kong Competition Ordinance coming into effect in December 2015.”

Caroline is also a qualified mediator (on the HKMAAL general panel) and chair of the Hong Kong Insurance Law Association Limited. In addition, Caroline has contributed to several published articles on insurance, shipping, competition law and data protection.

Her appointment follows the arrival of litigation partner Bryan O’Hare last year from Hogan Lovells, as Hill Dickinson continues to recruit and broaden its offering in Hong Kong.
