The London Maritime Arbitrators Association has elected Jonathan Elvey as its 27th President. Elvey succeeds David Steward in the role.
Before he became a full-time arbitrator, Elvey was in private practice as a maritime lawyer for nearly 40 years, first in London and then in Piraeus. Elvey has also spent extended time in Hong Kong, Monaco and Hamburg.
Jon Elvey said: “ It is a great honour to take on the role of President of the LMAA. It is a daunting prospect, especially on the heels of my friend David Steward, who has been so outstanding in the role. But it is a prospect I look forward to with relish. During my tenure I will be looking to develop and strengthen the LMAA’s ties with the Greek and other European shipowning and chartering communities and their insurers, as well as strengthening the LMAA’s ties with businesses in China, Korea and other East Asian regions.”
