Maritime London and its member companies and institutions are making a strong showing this week at the Posidonia shipping event in Athens, Greece. The Greek market is central to world shipping and it is important that London – the leading professional maritime services centre – is well represented.
There has already been engagement at Posidonia from Maritime London with and on behalf of Lloyd’s Register, Braemar ACM, the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Clarksons and the Union of Greek Shipowners. Today, Maritime London representatives are be engaging with UK law firms and P&I clubs based in Athens before a major participation in the London Stock Exchange seminar to be held at the exhibition centre, entitled “The future of shipping: London’s Equity markets as a source for growth and access to capital”. Following this, Maritime London will take part in a reception held at the British Embassy in Athens.
Doug Barrow, chief executive of Maritime London, present at Posidonia said: “It is extremely encouraging to see the strong London representation at Posidonia 2016. I am particularly pleased to see the UK shipping minister Robert Goodwill and the Lord Mayor, Alderman the Lord Mountevans, chairman of Maritime London, here following the recommendations of the Maritime Growth Study and taking advantage of this brilliant opportunity to support the UK maritime sector abroad.
Their involvement, along with the help of UKTI has resulted in several useful initiatives, including a lunch for bankers being held at the British Embassy in Athens today which ties in perfectly with one of the main talking points of this Posidonia – where to find shipping finance. We will certainly be highlighting London’s resources in this area.”
Among members at the Posidonia trade show exhibiting with stands and running seminars are Lloyd’s Register, IHS Maritime & Trade and BMT SMART. The Mission to Seafarers is the Posidonia 2016 nominated charity.
