International legal firm Watson Farley Williams LLP (WFW) announces that it is with great sadness it is sharing that former long-standing head of WFW Singapore and one of Asia’s leading maritime lawyers has passed away following a battle with cancer.
WFW said: “Mei, who joined the firm in September 1998, was loved and respected by all who knew and worked with her and will be hugely missed. WFW just won’t be the same without her. We ask you to remember Mei and extend your thoughts and prayers to her husband Michael and two daughters”.
Mei specialised in cross-border asset, project and structured finance transactions in the maritime & logistics and energy sectors. Her experience in the energy sector covers conventional power, offshore oil & gas and mining & commodities.
She advised financial institutions, export credit agencies, lessors, lessees, owners and operators and assists clients in the maritime and offshore sectors on the establishment, expansion and restructuring of their businesses across the Asia Pacific region.
Mei was widely recognised as one of Asia’s top shipping finance experts, having been named one of Lloyd’s List Top 10 maritime lawyers in 2017, as well as receiving their Asia Pacific “Individual Lawyer of the Year” award the same year. She was also named “Best in shipping” at the Euromoney Asia Women in Business Law Awards in both 2016 and most recently in 2019.
