New Year’s Honours went to several prominent people within the shipping sector this year.
Sir Philip Rutnam, Permanent Secretary at the Department for Transport (DfT) for five years until moving to the Home Office in April last year became a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath.
Linda Willson of the DfT, who played a key role in the preparations for London International Shipping Week, was awarded an OBE. She was until recently the head of maritime commerce and infrastructure at the Department for Transport. Richard Wilson, head of the office of the chairman and chief executive, Maritime and Coastguard Agency also received an OBE.
Sylvia Moys, Common Councilman for the Ward of Aldgate since 2001, was awarded MBE. She has been associated both with shipping and with Aldgate Ward, the maritime ward of the City, since she began her career with Ellerman’s before moving to Lloyd’s Register. She is a supporting member of Maritime London and its events.
Lloyd’s of London’s former chairman John Nelson has been made CBE. He stepped down from his position at Lloyd’s recently after six years in post.
Apostleship of Sea (AoS) port chaplain Reverend Roger Stone has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the pastoral care of seafarers. Roger has served as port chaplain for the seafarers’ charity since June 2010 and has provided pastoral, spiritual and welfare support to hundreds of crew members who arrive on ships at ports along the South Coast of England.
Maritime London chief executive Jos Standerwick, commented “It is pleasing to see a healthy number of maritime professionals recognised in the New Years Honours list.
