Graham Westgarth, CEO of V.Group, has had his extensive experience and reputation in shipping recognised by his peers as they elect him as the new Vice President of the UK Chamber of Shipping. He will be joining John Denholm, who has been elected as President and replaces Sir Michael Bibby.
This change of leadership coincides with the UK Chamber of Shipping publishing its new strategic plan. This latest vision, which was signed off at the Chamber’s recent AGM on 12th March outlines the plans and priorities for the Chamber and how it can continue to be the collective voice for the UK shipping industry.
Commenting on this new role, Graham Westgarth said: “I’m truly honoured by the trust that has been placed in me by my peers at the Chamber by electing me as their Vice President. As an industry, we are facing a series of unprecedented challenges, so it is essential that members unite to support innovation, progression and sustainable growth to ensure UK shipping continues to be a major player in the global economy. The need for a clear and loud voice for UK shipping is made all the more important when considering how UK shipping contributes nearly £20bn a year to the UK economy and is responsible for more than 180,000 jobs.”
Within his new role, Graham will be part of the executive board. He will also have a role in governing the Chamber and steering the future strategy of the organisation through his seat on the Supervisory Board.
Bob Sanguinetti, UK Chamber of Shipping CEO had this to add: “We are living through extraordinary times but that is why the Chamber is here, to champion and protect the UK shipping industry and I am delighted we have someone of Graham’s experience, expertise and know-how as our new Vice-President. He is an outstanding leader and he will help navigate the Chamber, and the industry, through the months and years ahead.”
